Mathematics is a subject done by all students and a very crucial subject when it comes to the placement of students after Form 4. Generally, Mathematics is life.
It is relevant in demystifying other subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Geography, and Biology, and also plays a key role in almost all careers.
As a department, our strength is based on the following: –
- Superfluous support from the school administration. All thanks to our very supportive principal for making Mathematics a very popular subject in our school. He does everything for the success of this department.
- A group of very dedicated teachers who believe in the spirit of teamwork hence achieving more together.
- Having teachers who are KNEC examiners in the subject.
- The department has female teachers only which is a high motivation to our boys who believe that what a lady can do, they can do much better
- Highly motivated students with a positive attitude towards Mathematics.
- Being ranked among the best three schools out of 34 Schools in Kirinyaga West Sub-County in the KCSE since 2018.
As a department, we have also put in place the following strategies to enhance a continuous improvement of performance in the subject: –
- Early syllabus coverage to allow enough time for revision in preparation for the KCSE.
- Internal and external contests and symposiums.
- Motivation of students in different ways.
- Affirmative action in the subject to cater to the needs of both the high and low achievers.
- Individualized attention to the very weak students.
- Frequent exams through speed tests that are done on a weekly basis.
- Setting targets and working towards achieving them.
- Use of ICT integration in teaching and learning Mathematics.
- Use of old students who had performed well in the subject to assist in revision.
In conclusion, Mathematics is a science of computation of numbers that require a lot of practice hence we subject our students to infinite practice making us realize better results.
To the school administration, we cannot thank you enough for your unwavering support towards our department. We are more than grateful.
